Justin Wilson is the experienced choice for City Council.
Justin is a City and Civic Leader:
- He was originally elected to City Council in a 2007 special election and served until the conclusion of his term in 2009.
- Prior to Council service, he was the Chair of the Alexandria Transit Company Board of Directors, which operates the City’s DASH bus service; served on the City’s Budget & Fiscal Affairs Advisory Committee and the Alexandria Commission on Information Technology; and was twice elected to the Presidency of the Del Ray Citizens Association.
- He has served our Commonwealth as an appointee of Governor Mark Warner to the Advisory Committee of Juvenile Justice and later as an appointee of Governors Warner and Kaine to the Board of Juvenile Justice.
- He served the Democratic Party as a Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia, Deputy Chair of the Alexandria Democratic Committee, and a member of the 8th District Democratic Committee.
Justin has a strong record of accomplishment on the issues that matter most:
Improving Transportation
- He successfully revived the dream for a new Metrorail station at Potomac Yard.
- He successfully supported new transit options for the West End and the Center of the City.
- He laid out a vision for an additional Metrorail station in the Eisenhower Valley.
- He advocated for additional funds for new DASH buses and the expansion of the DASH route structure.
- He fought to concentrate new development around Metro stations, protecting the City's neighborhoods and historic heritage.
Promoting Fiscal Health
- He led Council to adopt two of the most fiscally restrained budgets in the City’s history, creating the lowest overall tax burden for small businesses in the region while making new investments in Transportation, Public Safety, and Economic Development.
- He proposed millions of dollars of reductions to City spending—easing the burden on Alexandria taxpayers.
- He successfully advocated for reductions in City borrowing—protecting our AAA/aaa bond rating.
- He successfully set aside funds that prevented greater tax increases during the economic downturn.
Supporting our Youth
- He strongly supported efforts to ensure that our children begin kindergarten with high-quality preschool experiences.
- He pushed to strengthen programs in the fight against adolescent pregnancy.
- He worked to acquire new neighborhood parks, improve the City’s playing fields, and supported organized sports to encourage active lifestyles among Alexandria’s youth.
- He advocated for consolidating services between the City and the Alexandria City Public Schools so that additional resources can be available for classroom education.
Making Government More Effective
- He successfully advocated for consolidating the police and fire 9-1-1 centers and identified new funding to improve the City’s Fire Department response capability.
- He worked to reduce red tape for Alexandria’s small businesses and provided support to entrepreneurs to create and grow innovative businesses in the City that create new, high-wage jobs.
